Siberian Huskies - Breeders - Breed Ancestors
Siberian Huskies are the descendents of sled dogs developed in northern parts of Russia. Siberia with its extremely low temperatures is thought to be the origin of the breed. The Chikchi people used sled dogs as their means of survival. The history and religion of the people is closely connected with these dogs. It will suffice to say that the Chickhi people and other tribes that resided in Northern Siberia drew pictures of sled dogs on rocks and other items. This proves a long history of the Siberian Husky's ancestors.
Siberian Huskies - Breeders - Everyday Life
Siberian Huskies were of great use to hunters, one of the basic activities of northern peoples. The dogs helped to carry their prey and equipment and had some advantages over deer. Even though the dogs were not as fast as deer, they had more endurance and were better adjusted for the permafrost.
Siberian Huskies were valued highly and have been treated as the members of the family. A legend states that during a severe starvation that destructed both people and dogs, there were only two puppies left. A woman nursed them and helped them to survive.

The first Siberian Huskies were brought to Alaska in 1908. William Goosak, a Russian sled dog professional, wanted Siberian Huskies to take part in the "All-Alaska Sweepstakes." His dogs came in third in that long-distance race, which created a stir and caused interest in the breed.
The Siberian Husky breed started to be popularized in the beginning of the 20th century. Dogs took part in various trials proving their strength and ability to perform virtual miracles. In 1925, during a devastating outbreak of epidemics in Alaska, Siberian Huskies were used to bring a cure from a far-away area. Tremendous efforts and devotion to humans have brought much fame to the breed. To honor the dogs, a statue was placed in Central Park.
Siberian Huskies - Breeders - Official Recognition
The number of breed adherents and popularity of the Siberian Husky provided for AKC recognition in 1930. The Siberian Husky Club of America was established in 1938 to help promote the breed and allow breeders, owners, and those who are attracted to the breed to closely interact with each other. Since then, the breed has changed much and is now far from the sled dogs originally developed by the Chukchi people. Yet, it is still used as a sledding dog and takes part in other canine sports with great success. Besides their wonderful working qualities Siberian Huskies make affectionate pets and accompany their owners in everyday activities.
